Lucknow: The State Election Commission has already started preparations for the Assembly Elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh in 2027.

Recently, the Commission held a meeting with 31 district magistrates where it was decided that there will be no more than 1200 voters at each polling booth. The aim is to avoid crowding at polling stations and ensure a well-organized election, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Booths To Increase

After this new rule, the number of polling booths for the Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh will increase. If there are a maximum of 1200 voters at each booth, then the number of booths in the state is likely to increase to about 19,500. This decision has been taken to make the voting process more transparent and systematic.

Akhilesh Yadav Statement

Samajwadi Party Chief and Kannauj MP, Akhilesh Yadav has given his reaction to this decision of the Election Commission.

Akhilesh wrote on the social media site X, "The more booths increase, the bigger will be the victory of PDA. The more booths there are, the more votes will be cast, and 90% PDA will win big."

Booths Over 1.82 lacs

If the new policy of the Election Commission is implemented, then the number of 1 lakh 62 thousand 462 booths can increase to 1 lakh 81 thousand 962 after the 2022 assembly elections. This means that about 19,500 new booths can be added in the 2027 elections.

Status In 2020

In the 2022 assembly elections, there were a total of 15 crore 5 lakh 82 thousand 750 voters in Uttar Pradesh. Apart from this, in the year 2017, there were 1 lakh 47 thousand 148 polling centers in the state, the number of which will increase by the year 2022 In 2016, the number of voters increased to 1 lakh 74 thousand 351.

In view of this increase, there is a possibility of further increase in the number of voters for the year 2027, which may lead to further increase in the number of polling booths.

Why Increase Booths

The Election Commission believes that if the number of voters at the booths remains the same, then the crowd may increase, which may cause inconvenience in the voting process. Keeping this in mind, the Commission has set new standards for polling stations.

Also, the Commission has also ensured that the maximum number is limited to 1200 voters so that indiscipline and disorder is not faced anywhere.

After More Booths

• Convenience: With more number of booths, the voting process will be more smooth and timely.

• Security: With this, more security arrangements can be implemented at the polling stations.

• Transparency of voting: More booths will increase the transparency of voting and no political party will get a chance to rig the elections.
