Lucknow: Monsoon has started showing its fierce form in Uttar Pradesh. On Thursday, a low pressure area turned into a depression, which caused heavy devastation in eastern UP, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Bundelkhand. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for these areas, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Due to the effect of this depression, heavy rains in Prayagraj completely disrupted life. Chunar in Mirzapur recorded 240 mm of rain and Meja in Prayagraj recorded 207 mm of rain, while 140 mm of rain in Jaunpur worsened the situation.

According to IMD Lucknow, the low pressure area formed around south-western Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh moved in the west-north-west direction in the last 24 hours and turned into a depression in south-eastern UP early Thursday. At 8:30 am, it was 40 km south-west of Prayagraj, 100 km north-east of Satna and 120 km from Banda. It was centered in the east-southeast. It is likely to move towards southern UP and northern Madhya Pradesh in the next two days.

Rainfall All Day Long In Prayagraj

Torrential rains accompanied by strong winds in Prayagraj took away many lives. 16 hours of continuous rain in Purvanchal brought the rivers in spate. Ganga, Saryu and Gomti rivers are close to the danger mark. The flood situation is serious in Sonbhadra and Chandauli, where villages around the Son river have been evacuated. Tourists are also being attracted to these areas due to water coming in the waterfalls after the rain.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rain in Mahoba, Jhansi and Lalitpur. There is also a warning of heavy rain in Banda, Chitrakoot, Kanpur Dehat, Mathura, Agra, Firozabad, Etawah, Auraiya, Jalaun and Hamirpur. Apart from this, 50 in Mathura, Hathras, Etah, Agra and adjoining areas. Winds at the speed of km/h and lightning are expected in many districts.

Humidity increased after light rain in Moradabad, which did not give relief to the people from the heat. Kanpur recorded more than 40 mm of rain, which submerged the city. The administration has started relief work in the affected areas.
