Varanasi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said that those who compromise the safety of women and daughters in the state will have to face strict consequences. Addressing a working women felicitation programme in Varanasi, he said the government’s focus has shifted from removing fear to creating opportunities for women’s growth.
Yogi said that nine years ago families worried about whether daughters could safely step outside their homes, but today the question has changed to how far women want to go in achieving their dreams.
Addressing the gathering in the Pindra Assembly constituency, the Chief Minister said women empowerment must be visible on the ground and not remain limited to announcements. He said the government’s approach has been to ensure women’s safety, improve education opportunities, provide skill development, create employment avenues and promote economic independence. According to Yogi, women are moving from the 'threshold of homes to opportunities, confidence and self-reliance'.
Highlighting government initiatives, Yogi claimed that women’s participation in the workforce has increased significantly in Uttar Pradesh over the past nine years. He said women’s workforce participation, which was around 12 percent earlier, has now crossed 36 percent. The Chief Minister said women are increasingly becoming entrepreneurs, professionals and contributors to the state’s economy. 50,000 meritorious girls to get Rani Lakshmibai Scooty Scheme Benefits. Yogi announced that 50,000 meritorious girl students studying in the final year of graduation will soon be brought under the Rani Lakshmibai Scooty Scheme.
He said the initiative aims to make higher education and mobility easier for talented female students across Uttar Pradesh.
CM highlighted various women safety initiatives, including Mission Shakti centres, Women Beat Police Officers and women helplines 1090 and 181. He said the number of women personnel in the state police has increased from around 10,000 in 2017 to 44,000, and is expected to cross 50,000 after upcoming recruitments. He also mentioned the establishment of three women PAC battalions named after Veerangana Avanti Bai Lodhi, Uda Devi Pasi and Jhalkari Bai Kori.
Yogi said the government is working on Project Ganga, under which digital entrepreneurs will be developed in 8,000 Nyaya Panchayats across Uttar Pradesh. Around 4,000 women will be trained under the initiative to provide digital services in rural areas and create employment opportunities.
The Chief Minister said women’s economic participation is increasing through initiatives such as Lakhpati Didis, Drone Didis, Banking Correspondent Sakhis and Self-Help Groups. He claimed that more than 28 lakh women in Uttar Pradesh have become Lakhpati Didis, while thousands of women are associated with milk producer organisations and startups.
Yogi said the goal is to ensure that no woman is forced to abandon her dreams due to financial limitations. He added that women will not only become the strength of families, but also a major force behind the economic development of Uttar Pradesh and India.
Taking a political swipe at opponents, Yogi said some people make announcements and attempt to divide society, but avoid taking action against criminals and mafias. He reiterated that those involved in crimes against women would face strict action.
