New Delhi: Many household habits seem harmless, but according to Vastu Shastra, some everyday practices may affect the energy balance within a home. One such habit is hanging clothes inside the bathroom or behind the bathroom door. Interior Vastu Planner expert Rani Tibrewal believe this practice can attract negative energy and create obstacles in various aspects of life.
While these beliefs are rooted in traditional Indian architectural principles, many people continue to follow them in an effort to maintain harmony and positivity in their living spaces.
According to Vastu principles, unwashed or damp clothes are believed to obstruct the smooth flow of positive energy. Repeatedly wearing clothes that have not been properly cleaned may contribute to feelings of discomfort, irritability and mental fatigue.
Supporters of Vastu suggest that such conditions can indirectly affect concentration, productivity and workplace relationships. As a result, individuals may experience increased stress, misunderstandings or difficulties in achieving desired professional success.
In Vastu Shastra, bathrooms are often associated with the presence of negative energy due to moisture, waste disposal and limited ventilation. Damp clothes hanging in such areas are believed to absorb this energy more easily.
Traditional beliefs also suggest that the effect becomes stronger during the night when the environment is quieter and less active. Clothes left in bathrooms for extended periods are therefore considered more vulnerable to absorbing unwanted energy.
Another common practice is placing hooks behind bathroom doors to hang clothes. Vastu experts advise against this because doors are considered pathways through which energy enters and exits a space.
Blocking these pathways with clothing is believed to disturb the natural energy flow, potentially leading to tension within the household and financial setbacks.
For people living in small homes or apartments, using the bathroom for drying clothes may be unavoidable. In such cases, Vastu recommendations include keeping the exhaust fan running to maintain proper airflow and removing clothes as soon as possible.
If weather permits, drying clothes in direct sunlight is considered beneficial, as sunlight is traditionally believed to help eliminate negative energy and maintain freshness.
While these guidelines are based on Vastu beliefs rather than scientific evidence, they continue to influence home practices for many households across India.
