New Delhi: Pranit More, the stand-up comedian at the centre of the viral “Rs 370 biryani” controversy, has publicly apologised for his role in a crowd interaction that sparked widespread outrage online. In a video shared on social media, More acknowledged his mistake and said he regretted not stopping the audience member whose remarks triggered the backlash.

Comedian Admits ‘Lapse In Judgment’

Addressing the controversy, More revealed that he had wanted to speak earlier but was unable to do so because his Instagram account had been suspended. Reflecting on the viral clip, he admitted that he got carried away during the crowd work segment and failed to intervene when objectionable comments were made.

According to More, he could have stopped the audience member at the time but instead allowed the exchange to continue, unintentionally providing a platform that contributed to the escalation of the issue. He apologised to those who felt hurt by the incident and appealed to the public for another opportunity to prove himself.

Cooperation With Authorities

The comedian also stated that he is cooperating with authorities in connection with the legal proceedings initiated against him. His apology comes amid growing scrutiny over the content of the viral show and its wider social implications.

NCW And Police Action

The controversy has attracted the attention of the National Commission for Women (NCW), which has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter. The commission summoned both More and audience member Himanshu Jangra, expressing concern over remarks that allegedly promoted misogynistic attitudes and trivialised women’s consent and dignity.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Cyber Police have registered an FIR against More in relation to the case.

What Sparked The Controversy?

The backlash stemmed from a stand-up performance in Gurugram where an audience member recounted an interaction with a woman after a meal. During the exchange, he suggested that spending Rs 370 on biryani entitled him to expect something in return. The remarks quickly went viral on social media, drawing criticism from users who accused both the speaker and the comedian of normalising offensive attitudes toward women.
