Content creator Dolesh Agarwal spoke with two engineers at an Indian restaurant in Japan. When asked about their starting annual salary, they revealed that a software engineer in Japan typically earns a package of around 3 million yen, equivalent to approximately ₹17 lakh (approximately ₹1.7 million).

They further explained that with two to three years of experience, this salary can reach ₹4.5 million to ₹5 million (approximately ₹3 million) annually. While this figure sounds attractive, the story doesn't end there.
The engineers explained that out of a salary of ₹1.7 million, approximately ₹3 million is deducted in taxes. In an expensive country like Japan, saving money after paying rent, transportation, food, and other expenses is not easy. They said that living alone can manage, but living with family can be financially challenging.
As soon as the video went viral, netizens were divided. Some said that ₹3 million is considered a large sum in India, but the cost of living in a country like Japan is much higher.
