Chennai: Kayalvizhi, daughter of former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri and granddaughter of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, has been booked by Chennai Police for allegedly assaulting and threatening the manager of a State Bank of India (SBI) branch in the city.

The case was registered following a complaint filed by an SBI official after an alleged altercation at the bank's NRI branch in Adyar on July 20. Police said the incident was captured on the branch's CCTV cameras and an investigation is currently underway.

Dispute Inside Branch Office

According to police, the confrontation took place inside the branch manager's office during a discussion related to the building where the bank operates.

Preliminary findings suggest the disagreement stemmed from complaints regarding a malfunctioning lift in the commercial property, which police said is allegedly owned by Kayalvizhi. During the exchange, she allegedly slapped the manager and also threatened him.

A video claimed to be CCTV footage of the incident surfaced on social media on Saturday. However, its authenticity has not been independently verified by media reports.

Police Begin Investigation

Based on the bank official's complaint, police have registered a case against Kayalvizhi on charges related to assault and criminal intimidation.

Investigators are examining the CCTV footage and recording statements from those present at the time of the incident to establish the sequence of events.
