‘Arrest Me, Stop Harassing Me’: Sonam Wangchuk Warns ‘If I Die of Stress, You Will Be Responsible’ (Img: Pintrest)
New Delhi: A video went viral where educationist and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk in a tense confrontation with security personnel at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on social media.
The incident reportedly took place on July 21, when Wangchuk was preparing to leave Safdarjung Hospital for Medanta Hospital in Gurugram following proceedings in the Delhi High Court.
In the viral footage which flared up on X, "Wangchuk is seen arguing with security personnel and repeatedly asking them to arrest him instead of preventing him from leaving."
“Ask them to arrest me. Arrest me. Why are you harassing me for three hours during my hunger strike?” he is heard shouting.
He also tells officials, “Please open the doors, I am leaving. Arrest me if you want. Why are you forcing me to stay? This is torture.”
At another point, Wangchuk warns that the stress could affect his health.
“You all are harassing me. If I die of stress, it will be your responsibility,” he says.
As the confrontation intensifies, Wangchuk is seen lying down on the hospital floor in protest.
People accompanying him continued recording the exchange, while Wangchuk urged them to document what was happening.
“Take pictures. Let us see who snatches your phone,” he is heard saying after an apparent attempt to stop one of his supporters from filming.
Wangchuk’s wife, Geetanjali Angmo, is also seen expressing anger during the confrontation.

Delhi Police Officials said the video was recorded on July 21, when Wangchuk attempted to leave for Medanta Hospital after his family was informed about the court’s decision.
According to reports, the hospital administration had not received the written court order at that time.
They said, "Wangchuk was stopped temporarily because the authorities were waiting for the formal order before allowing his transfer."
Safdarjung Hospital also issued a clarification, saying the video was recorded before the administration received the Delhi High Court’s written order.
The hospital said Wangchuk wanted to leave based on information being reported in the media, but officials were required to wait for the official document.
It added that Wangchuk was handed over to a medical team from Medanta Hospital at around 6:40 PM on the same day, soon after the written order was received.
The confrontation formed part of a longer video released by Wangchuk after he ended his 26-day hunger strike.
In the video, he alleged that he had been treated like a prisoner after being shifted to Safdarjung Hospital on July 18.
Sonam Wangchuk claimed that his movement was restricted, visitors were not freely allowed to meet him, and he was denied access to a mobile phone and laptop.
The activist compared his experience to living under an authoritarian system and alleged that he was prevented from leaving the hospital for several hours despite the court’s decision.
