New York: After stunning the nation by firing FBI Director James Comey, United States President Donald Trump shrugged off the criticism by Chuck Schumer for his action, saying the Senator was acting 'indignant' given his previous condemnation of the top cop.

"Cryin' Chuck Schumer stated recently, "I do not have confidence in him (James Comey) any longer." Then acts so indignant. #draintheswamp," he said in a tweet.

At a press conference on Tuesday evening, Schumer stated that he had apprised Trump that his decision to fire Comey was a "big mistake".

"Earlier this afternoon President Trump called me and informed he was firing Director Comey, and I told the president, 'Mr. President, with all due respect, you are making a big mistake," The Hill quoted Schumer as saying.
