Andhra Pradesh: Five killed in three road accidents in Prakasam

Nellore: At least five persons were killed and three others injured in three accidents, which occurred almost simultaneously in Prakasam district, in the wee hours on Sunday.

Near Koppolu in Ongole mandal, a lorry with eggs overturned, killing three people on the spot.

The deceased were identified as Ramanaiah (60), R Babu (40) and Nagendra (45).

This lorry was going to Nellore from Bhavanagiri in Telangana state, overturned on the highway.

Moments later, another lorry rammed into the overturned vehicle, resulting in injuries to several more.

Lorry Rams Into Car

At the same time, a speeding lorry rammed a car, which was stranded in the traffic, some distance away from the first accident.

The car was sandwiched between two lorries, killing T Pavani (35) and T Koushik (14). Four persons travelling in the car were injured, and they were admitted to the RIMS hospital.

The police removed the ill-fated vehicles from the road and cleared the traffic.

Earlier Accidents

In a ghastly road accident, five medical college students and a 50-year-old man were killed when the car in which they were travelling crashed into a roadside house at Pothireddypalem village of Kovvuru mandal in Nellore district on 28 April.

Police said that six medical college students were studying second year medicine at Narayana medical college. They attended the engagement function of the sister of one of the deceased. When they were going back to their hostel, their car crashed into a roadside house killing a resident of the house Venkata Ramanaiah (50).

Accident In March

In March at least four persons were killed when the auto-rickshaw met with an accident in Kunderu Mandal of Anantapur district on Sunday, the police said.

According to the police, the car collided with an auto, resulting in the immediate death of two people on the spot.

A total of seven people were injured in the accident, and despite receiving treatment at the hospital, two more succumbed to death, bringing the total death toll to four; while others sustained severe injuries.

Upon Receiving The Information

Upon receiving the information, Circle Inspector Raju and the police team rushed to the accident site and promptly shifted the injured to Anantapur Government Hospital for treatment.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
