Two Premium 7-Seater SUVs to Challenge Toyota Fortuner in Indian Market
New Delhi: February 2026 is shaping up to be a crucial month for the Indian auto sector. Two premium full-size SUVs - the MG Majestor and the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line - are set to launch in the country this month. The MG Majestor was unveiled at the 2025 India Mobility Show and is considered a sportier version of the MG Gloster. The company is preparing to launch it on February 12th. Pre-bookings for the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line have already begun online and at dealerships for a token amount of ₹51,000.
Both new SUVs will fall into the 7-seater full-size segment. In the Indian market, they will compete directly with vehicles like the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and MG Gloster. Their pricing is expected to be competitive, with a starting price of less than ₹50 lakh.

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is believed to be a 3-row version of the Tiguan R-Line, which has now been discontinued in India. It will be locally assembled in India using CKD kits. This SUV is expected to be powered by a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 204 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. It could be paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. According to the company, this SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 224 km/h.
In terms of features, it is expected to feature modern features like a 15-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, three-zone climate control, ventilated and powered seats (with memory, heating, and massage functions), and ambient lighting.

Full details of the MG Majestor are not yet known, but it is expected to be powered by a 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel engine that produces 216 bhp and 479 Nm of torque. It is expected to be paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and an AWD system. The design of this SUV is said to be inspired by the Maxus D90 sold in foreign markets.
The interior is expected to feature premium features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, three-zone automatic climate control, a 12-speaker sound system, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, and heated seats.
