Indian carmaker Mahindra and Mahindra is gearing up for the launch of a facelift variant of its popular SUV, the Thar. The camouflaged test mule of the three-door Thar has been recently spotted in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The SUV received the last update in October 2025; the latest prototype suggests the company is working on a second round of visual enhancements. The company has added several styling elements to the facelift from Thar Roxx.

The facelift variant of Thar is likely to launch later this year with major exterior updates. However, the media reports suggest that the powertrain will remain unchanged.

Thar Facelift Design and Updates

The spy images show noticeable revisions at the front profile, whereas the test vehicle appears to adopt a design closely resembling the Thar Roxx. The front profile features circular headlamps that seem to sit flush with the grille instead of being recessed and are likely to be flanked by Signature C-shaped LED daytime running lights. The six-slot grille also appears to feature a new two-piece design, while the front bumper and turn indicators have been subtly reworked.

These updates would mark a significant change from the current three-door Thar, which currently uses halogen headlamps paired with separate LED DRLs.

Thar Facelift Powertrain and Engine options

In terms of powertrain, the SUV is likely to remain the same. The updated Thar is likely to use the existing engine lineup, which consists of three variants. 2.0-litre turbo engine generating 152bhp and 300Nm of torque, a 2.2-litre diesel producing 132bhp and 300Nm of torque, and a 1.5-litre diesel

A six-speed gearbox is likely to remain standard across all the engine options, whereas six-speed automatic configurations, while the turbo-petrol automatic should also continue to be offered in rear-wheel-drive form.
