The National Highways Authority of India has revised the FASTag Annual Pass fee for private vehicles from the upcoming financial year. The change, effective April 1, could impact thousands of frequent highway commuters across India.

NHAI hikes FASTag annual pass fee from April 1
New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a revision in the price of the FASTag Annual Pass for the financial year 2026-27. As per an official order issued on March 12, the annual fee for non-commercial vehicles will increase from ₹3,000 to ₹3,075.
The revised price will come into effect from April 1, 2026, and will apply to private vehicles such as cars, jeeps and vans that use FASTag for electronic toll payments on national highways.

The FASTag Annual Pass scheme was launched on Independence Day in 2025 with the aim of simplifying highway travel for frequent commuters.
The initiative was designed to reduce the hassle of repeated toll payments at multiple plazas while promoting digital toll collection across India’s national highway network.
Under the scheme, eligible private vehicles equipped with an active FASTag can purchase an annual pass that allows them to cross toll plazas without paying separate charges for each journey.
Once activated, the annual pass enables a vehicle to pass through toll plazas on national highways up to 200 times or remain valid for one year, whichever comes first.
The benefit applies regardless of the toll amount charged at individual plazas, making it a cost-effective option for motorists who travel frequently on highways. The pass is limited to vehicles registered for private, non-commercial use.
According to data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the scheme has gained significant traction since its introduction.
More than 50 lakh motorists across India are currently using the FASTag Annual Pass for toll payments. Government data also shows that nearly 28 per cent of toll transactions made by private cars on national highways are now carried out through the annual pass system.

FASTag itself has become the dominant mode of toll payment in the country since its rollout in 2016. Authorities say over 11.86 crore FASTags have been issued so far, with around 5.9 crore currently active.
Vehicle owners can apply for or renew the annual pass through digital platforms such as the Rajmarg Yatra App or through official portals managed by NHAI and MoRTH.
Applicants need to log in using their FASTag-linked account, enter vehicle registration details and complete the payment through online modes such as UPI, debit cards, credit cards or net banking. Once processed, the pass is typically activated within 24 hours.
