Tesla delivers its first Model Y in India to Maharashtra minister

Mumbai: Tesla has now started delivering the Model Y more than a month after opening its first showroom in India and launching it. The first Tesla car was delivered in Mumbai, where Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik received his white Model Y from the 'Tesla Experience Center,' Bandra Kurla Complex. The showroom was opened on July 15.

Pratap Sarnaik said that he is proud to buy this car by paying the full price without any discount. He said that he will use this car to drop his grandson to school so that more and more people can see, understand, and be inspired to adopt electric vehicles (EV).

Features and Variants of Tesla Model Y

The Tesla Model Y has been introduced in two variants in the Indian market:

Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD): Which is priced at around Rs 59.89 lakh ex-showroom. This model offers a driving range of 500 km and accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds.

Long Range RWD: Priced at around Rs 67.89 lakh, it offers a driving range of 622 km and accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.6 seconds.

Tesla Model Y

The top speed of both variants is around 201 kmph. Also, they support supercharging and can give a range of up to 267 km in just 15 minutes of charging. A full self-driving package is also available in India, which is being offered for an extra charge of around Rs 6 lakh.

Market situation and Tesla's plans

According to a Bloomberg report, Tesla has received around 600 bookings in India so far, which is less than the company's expectations. Tesla plans to ship 350 to 500 cars to India this year, with the first shipment expected to arrive from Shanghai in early September. Currently, Tesla deliveries and registrations are only available in Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurgaon.

India's EV market is still small, but EV car sales grew by 93% between April and July, indicating rapidly growing interest in the sector. Tesla's entry into India marks a major step towards electric vehicles in the country. The launch and delivery of the Model Y has given further impetus to India's EV market.

Minister Pratap Sarnaik's priority also makes it clear that the trend of EV adoption in the country will increase, especially when it is shown publicly. In the coming times, Tesla's models and their technology will play an important role in expanding the electric vehicle industry in India.
