Which Car Saves More Money in 2026? (Image Source: Internet)
New Delhi: In today's times, the prices of petrol and diesel are constantly increasing. This is having a direct impact on the pockets of the common people. Consequently, people are now looking for vehicles that offer greater mileage at a lower operating cost. In this regard, CNG and hybrid cars are currently the subject of much discussion, as both prove to be more economical compared to petrol-powered vehicles.
CNG cars are highly beneficial for individuals who cover long distances on a daily basis. Their most significant feature is their low running cost.
If the price of CNG is approximately ₹80 per kilogram and the car delivers a mileage of 26.6 km/kg, then driving 1,500 kilometers would cost around ₹4,500. This translates to an operating cost of approximately ₹3 per kilometer.
Nevertheless, manufacturers are now actively working on addressing and resolving these issues. In terms of pricing, CNG cars are typically about ₹1 lakh more expensive than their petrol counterparts—a difference that is generally not considered to be substantial.
Hybrid cars are based on advanced technology, wherein a petrol engine and an electric motor work in tandem. This results in reduced petrol consumption and enhanced mileage.
Key Features:
Assuming the price of petrol is ₹100 per liter, driving 1,500 kilometers would cost approximately ₹5,300–₹5,400. This works out to an operating cost of roughly ₹3.50 per kilometer.
Hybrid cars are more expensive than both CNG and petrol cars. Typically, their price tag is higher by ₹3–4 lakhs. Therefore, it does not fit within everyone's budget.
If we consider costs alone, CNG cars clearly have the edge.
However, the decision depends on your specific needs:
Both options are more economical than petrol cars, yet CNG is still considered the most cost-effective choice. Conversely, hybrid cars are better suited for those who prioritize comfort and technology over strict budgetary constraints.
