Bihar Elections 2025: Nitish Kumar announces Rs 1,000 monthly aid for unemployed graduates

Patna: In an apparent bid to woo young voters ahead of state assembly elections, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced to give Rs 1,000 per month for two years to unemployed youth having completed graduation. Under this scheme, graduates of 20 to 25 years who are neither studying, employed, nor self-employed will receive Rs 1,000 monthly for two years.

CM Nitish Kumar has expanded the state's flagship welfare initiative, the Mukhyamantri Nishchay Swayam Sahayta Bhatta Yojana to include unemployed graduates.

Previously, the allowance was available only to individuals who had completed their intermediate education. This expansion aims to provide financial support to educated youth actively seeking employment, enabling them to pursue skill development and prepare for competitive examinations.

The self-help allowance scheme was launched on October 2, 2016. In the coming times, a large number of new job and employment opportunities will be created in the government and private sectors. To achieve this set target, youth are being provided skill development training so that they can obtain jobs/employment, CM Kumar said on x.

“I hope that the youth will use this assistance allowance to obtain necessary training and prepare for competitive examinations so that their future can be secured”, Kumar added.

Other schemes ahead of Assembly Elections

Earlier on Wednesday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced a direct financial handout of Rs 5,000 each to over 16 lakh construction workers across the state. The move, seen by many as a significant step ahead of the upcoming elections, coincided with Vishwakarma Puja and the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding a festive touch to the initiative.

Additionally on Tuesday, CM announced a major reform in the Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme, making education loans completely interest free for all applicants. The move aims to boost higher education opportunities for students across the state.

The scheme, launched in October 2016, under the 07 Nishchay Yojana, was designed to provide education loans up to Rs 4 lakh for students who had passed Class 12 and wanted to pursue higher studies.
