Patna: Bhojpuri superstar Khesari Lal Yadav will contest from the Chhapra Assembly constituency on a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) ticket in the upcoming Bihar elections.

Initially, the party had allotted the ticket to Chanda Devi, wife of Khesari Lal.

However, after it was found that her name was not on the voter list, the RJD decided to replace her with Khesari Lal.

The Chapra Assembly constituency is a general seat, and it comes under the Saran Lok Sabha constituency.

Party insiders indicate that the candidate selection aims to broaden the RJD’s appeal beyond its traditional support base by including a mix of grassroots leaders, youth, and regional influencers. However, uncertainty remains over seat-sharing arrangements with the Congress and other allies, raising questions about the unity of the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance).

Addressing the growing murmurs of dissatisfaction among aspirants denied tickets, RJD spokesperson Chittranjan Gagan said, “If a party has a large support base and many capable workers, it is natural that several people will seek tickets. But only one can be selected.

"In coalition politics, the number of available seats is limited. Any emotional remarks from those who were not chosen should not be taken too seriously. Every RJD worker is committed to ensuring the victory of the party’s official candidates. Our shared goal is to make Tejashwi Yadav the Chief Minister.”

Despite these assurances, discontent within sections of the party ranks has been reported following the list’s announcement.

The first phase of polling in Bihar will be held on November 6, followed by the second phase on November 11, with results to be declared on November 14.

The political landscape in Bihar is witnessing intensified activity ahead of the Bihar elections in 2025. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has announced its first list of candidates covering 143 assembly constituencies, signaling the party’s core strategy and key nominations. The list includes prominent leaders such as Tejashwi Yadav and popular figures from different communities, indicating RJD’s aim to broaden its electoral appeal.

The list features candidates from 38 districts, blending established politicians and fresh faces. RJD’s star campaigner, Tejashwi Yadav, has been nominated from the Raghopur seat—a move designed to consolidate his political base and reinforce his leadership credentials.

The party has also included Bhojpuri singer-turned-politician Khesari Lal Yadav, along with leaders like Smita Purve, demonstrating a mix of appeal among different voter segments. Special focus is given to backward classes and minority communities to strengthen the vote bank.
