Patna: The All India Mahagathbandhan has announced a statewide Chakka Jam today in protest against the special intensive revision campaign of the voter list being run by the Election Commission in Bihar. RJD, Congress, and Left party workers have come out on the streets in various parts of the state since morning.
Roads blocked
According to the Dynamite News correspondent, RJD supporters stopped the passenger train in Jehanabad, while roads have been blocked in many areas, including Maner and Hajipur. In Muzaffarpur too, the protest started by burning tires from 6 am.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also joined the Chakka Jam
Meanwhile, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also joined the Chakka Jam. RJD spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed said that the Chakka Jam started at 9 am today from the RJD office located at 2 Veerchand Patel Path in Patna, in which top leaders of many opposition parties will participate.
Why is the protest being done?
RJD alleges that this special revision campaign, which started on June 30, is being run at the behest of NDA so that the names of Dalit, backward, tribal, minority, and poor voters can be removed from the voter list. They have termed it a conspiracy to snatch the right to vote.
25 crore workers participated
On the other hand, central labor organizations have also called for a nationwide strike today. Under this, banks, insurance offices, and coal mines are likely to remain closed. Trade unions claim that about 25 crore workers are participating in this Bharat Bandh.
All the major leaders of the Grand Alliance, including Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, Dipankar Bhattacharya, D. Raja, and M. A. Baby, will be present in the main program organized in Patna. This protest can give a new direction to the political equations before the upcoming elections.
