Patna: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Samrat Choudhary was on Tuesday elected as the leader of the BJP Legislative Party in Bihar, paving the way for him to become the state’s next Chief Minister. He is scheduled to take oath on April 15 at 11 am.

The decision was taken during a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting, marking a significant political shift in the state leadership.

First Remarks: ‘A Sacred Opportunity’

Soon after his selection, Choudhary expressed gratitude to the BJP’s central leadership for placing their trust in him. He described the responsibility not merely as a political position but as a “sacred opportunity” to serve the people of Bihar.

After being elected, Choudhary addressed party workers at the BJP office in Patna, thanking them for their support. He recognised the enthusiasm among supporters and said their backing would be crucial in fulfilling the party’s goals in Bihar.

He also noted that his political journey has been shaped by past leadership experiences and reiterated his commitment to the party’s ideology.

The leadership change follows the resignation of Nitish Kumar, one of Bihar’s longest-serving chief ministers. He submitted his resignation to Governor Syed Ata Hasnain after a cabinet meeting earlier in the day.

Kumar stated that he had decided to step down after years of service and expressed confidence in the incoming government. He also assured full cooperation and guidance to the new administration.
