New Delhi: In a significant bureaucratic development, the Central Government has approved the appointment of senior IPS officer Amit Pathak of the 2007 Uttar Pradesh cadre as Inspector General (IG) in the National Security Guard. The appointment has been cleared by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which issued a formal order on June 1, 2026.
According to the order, Amit Pathak has been appointed against a vacant IG-level post in the NSG under the Central Deputation scheme. His tenure will be governed by the standard terms and conditions applicable to officers serving on deputation with the Central Government.
MHA Directs Uttar Pradesh Government to Relieve Officer Promptly
In a communication addressed to the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, the Ministry of Home Affairs has requested that Pathak be relieved of his current responsibilities at the earliest to enable him to take charge of his new assignment without delay.
Copies of the appointment order have also been forwarded to the Director General of Police (DGP), Uttar Pradesh, and the Director General of the NSG for necessary action.

The NSG, widely regarded as India's elite counter-terrorism and special operations force, plays a crucial role in safeguarding national security and responding to high-risk threats.
