Lucknow: A major administrative shake-up took place on Tuesday evening in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency, Varanasi. The Uttar Pradesh government transferred several key officials including the Municipal Commissioner, Chief Development Officer (CDO), and Vice-Chairman of the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA).

Major administrative reshuffle in UP, 46 IAS officers transferred

Along with this, the state government has transferred a total of 46 IAS officers across Uttar Pradesh, including those posted in Varanasi.

  • IAS Prakhar Kumar Singh has been appointed as the Chief Development Officer (CDO) of Varanasi. He previously served as CDO and Divisional Food Controller in Aligarh.
  • IAS Purn Vohra has been made the Vice-Chairman of VDA (Varanasi Development Authority). Earlier, he was posted as the CDO of Bijnor.
  • IAS Himanshu Nagpal has been appointed as the Municipal Commissioner of Varanasi, replacing his previous position as CDO.
  • IAS Pulkit Garg has been posted as the District Magistrate of Chitrakoot. He earlier served as the Vice-Chairman of the VDA.
  • IAS Akshat Verma, who was serving as Municipal Commissioner of Varanasi, has been transferred and posted as Special Secretary, Planning Department, Uttar Pradesh Government.
  • IAS Vandita Srivastava has been appointed as the CDO of Kushinagar. She previously served as Additional District Magistrate (ADM) in Varanasi.

Why This Reshuffle Happened?

This reshuffle aims to accelerate development projects and strengthen monitoring of key schemes in Varanasi. The state government has been closely reviewing progress on major initiatives such as the second phase of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham expansion, the Ganga Corridor, and the Smart City Mission.

According to sources, the government wants to ensure that the 2025 development targets are achieved on time and that the impact of these projects is clearly visible in the Prime Minister’s constituency.

With the new appointments, it is expected that Varanasi’s development activities will gain fresh momentum and efficiency. Meanwhile, this administrative reshuffle has also sparked lively discussions within bureaucratic circles.
