Gold prices continued their strong momentum on January 3, 2026, supported by firm global cues and safe-haven demand. Domestic markets saw 24K gold trading above ₹1.34 lakh per 10 grams, while major cities like Delhi and Chennai reported even higher rates.
Gold Shines in 2026: 24K Prices Remain Strong
New Delhi: Gold prices are strengthening with the start of the new year 2026. According to the Indian Bullion and Jewelers Association (IBJA), the price of 24-carat gold rose to ₹1,34,782 per 10 grams by market close on Friday. Since the bullion market is closed on Saturday and Sunday, the same price will be valid on both days. Gold is selling for up to ₹1,36,360 per 10 grams in some cities.
The price of 24-carat gold in the capital Delhi's bullion market was recorded at ₹1,39,440 per 10 grams. Gold prices also remained high in metro cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru. In Chennai, gold is slightly more expensive than in other cities, where 24-carat gold has reached ₹1,37,250 per 10 grams.

According to IBJA, 24-carat gold is trading at ₹1,34,782 per 10 grams today. 23-carat gold is selling at ₹1,34,242, 22-carat gold at ₹1,23,460, 18-carat gold at ₹1,01,087, and 14-carat gold at ₹78,848 per 10 grams. The prices of 22-carat and 18-carat gold are particularly important for jewelry buyers.
Gold has also shown strength in the international market. Spot gold has risen to $4,392.94 per ounce. The price of the February 5, 2026, gold contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) was recorded at ₹1,36,448 per 10 grams. The rise in global markets is having a direct impact on domestic prices.

Commodity experts believe that expectations of an interest rate cut by the US Federal Reserve and global uncertainty are driving investors to choose gold as a safe haven. According to experts at Mirae Asset Sharekhan, gold prices are expected to remain strong in the coming days and could trade internationally in the range of $4,250 to $4,335 per ounce.
