New Delhi: Food delivery giant Swiggy has launched a new app called Toing, for price-conscious consumers such as students and young professionals. The app is live on Play Store and App Store, offers meals primarily in the range of Rs 100 to 150.

The decision to go live in Pune is likely because of its demographics as the city has a captive student crowd and a young workforce. The platform has been designed to cater to college students, young professionals, and households seeking pocket-friendly dining options without compromising quality and convenience.

Unlike most Swiggy pilots that typically begin in Bengaluru, Toing’s first rollout is in Pune. As per the Industry observers, the city’s demographics, a large student population and a young working-class base are the key reasons for this choice. Sources informed that the application initially operates in 4–5 regions of Pune, with gradual expansion based on its performance.

The launch comes at a time when food delivery apps are facing intense competition and pressure to balance profitability with customer acquisition. Analysts suggest that by targeting the value-conscious segment, Swiggy is looking to widen its user base while differentiating itself from rivals.

The app has items starting at less than Rs 99 as well as those that can be delivered within 30 minutes. A few items available on the app include cakes, burgers, pasta, sandwiches, sweets, ice creams, pizzas, biryani, dosa, kebabs, parathas, noodles, and pastries. This is similar to the formula of Swiggy app which also has a Rs 99 store, including meals that are worth Rs 99 or less.

As per the reports, Swiggy shares rose 1.13% to Rs 424.80 apiece on the BSE even as the benchmark Sensex ended the day 0.15% lower at 81,785.74 points on Monday. Toing’s platform fee was reportedly lower at Rs 12, compared to Rs 14.99 on the main app, and the GST charged by restaurants on Swiggy was higher.
