New Delhi: Bengaluru Police have detained a 25-year-old man from West Bengal over alleged links with a suspected terror network and are investigating claims that he planned to travel to Afghanistan.
The accused, identified as Asafool Mallik, was taken into custody from the Jigani area of Bengaluru following a probe into his alleged suspicious online activities, police said.
Mallik, a resident of North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, was working as a security guard at a private company in the Jigani Industrial Area since December 2025.
According to police, Mallik allegedly established contact through Facebook with a person identified as Imran Haider from Afghanistan, who investigators believe is associated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Police alleged that Mallik had sought assistance to travel to Afghanistan and had also applied for a visa. However, during questioning, he reportedly told investigators that he later dropped the plan due to financial constraints and family responsibilities.
Police said Mallik allegedly expressed anger over what he believed were incidents involving the Pakistani military and also discussed issues related to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Investigators are examining whether these views were linked to any planned activities. Police have also claimed that Mallik was allegedly encouraged to retaliate if Muslims faced difficulties in India.
During the investigation, police allegedly recovered chats, voice call records and audio conversations from Mallik’s mobile phone.
Authorities are analysing the digital evidence to determine the extent of his alleged connections and establish further details in the case. The investigation is currently underway, and police are examining all available evidence related to the alleged terror links.
