CBI Cracks Down on Corruption in Postal Department, Two Held
Jalaun: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken major action in Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh, arresting two postal department officials in a bribery case. The arrested accused have been identified as Prateek Bhargava, Sub-Divisional Inspector (SDI), Sub-Division Post Office, Konch, and Amir Hasan, Branch Post Master, Chandurra Post Office, Jalaun. The action was taken on 17 December.
The CBI registered a case in this matter on 15 December, based on a complaint. The complainant alleged that the two accused officials had demanded an illegal bribe of Rs 15,000 from him in exchange for relieving him from his transfer order, processing his October salary, and re-verifying his caste certificate.

The complaint also alleged that Sub-Divisional Inspector Prateek Bhargava had already extorted Rs. 5,000 from the complainant through threats and coercion. Subsequently, the total bribe amount was settled at Rs. 12,500 through negotiations. During this process, the accused SDI also received an additional Rs. 2,500.
After verifying the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on December 16, 2025. During the operation, both accused were caught red-handed demanding and accepting the remaining Rs. 5,000 bribe from the complainant. All legal procedures were followed during the trap operation.

The CBI arrested both accused on December 16, 2025. According to the agency, other legal and investigative procedures related to the trap operation are currently underway. The CBI is conducting further investigations in this case to determine whether any other officers or employees were also involved in this corruption.
