Ex-UIET assistant jailed for 4 Years in bribery case
Lucknow: A Special CBI Court in Lucknow has convicted and sentenced Vijay Kumar Dwivedi, former Office Assistant at the University Institute of Engineering & Technology (UIET), Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar University (BBAU), to four years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 in a bribery case.
Bribe Demand to Extend Contractual Tenure
The case originated from a complaint filed on 2 June, 2017, by a Contractual Assistant Professor at UIET, BBAU. The complainant alleged that Dwivedi had demanded an undue advantage of Rs 50,000 in exchange for extending his contractual appointment through the Director of UIET.
Accused Caught Red-Handed
Acting on the complaint, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) organized a trap operation during which Dwivedi was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 50,000 from the complainant.
Investigation and Trial
After completing the investigation, the CBI filed its chargesheet on 1 August, 2017. Following a full trial, the court found Dwivedi guilty and awarded the sentence.
Verdict
The Special CBI Court held the accused accountable for corruption-related offences and pronounced the four-year imprisonment along with a monetary penalty.
