CBI apprehends Branch Manager and Field Officer of UP Gramin Bank
Lucknow: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the Branch Manager and Field Officer of UP Gramin Bank at Chandausi, Uttar Pradesh today on 2nd September for accepting bribe. Both the officers are accused of illegally demanding and accepting Rs 30,000 from the complainant.
The CBI had registered a case against Field Officer (Scale-2), UP Gramin Bank, Chandausi on the same day. The complainant runs a garment shop in Chandausi along with his sister. To expand her business, the sister of the complainant had applied for a loan of Rs 3 lakh from the UP Gramin Bank branch in Chandausi under the 'Mukhyamantri Yuva Rojgar Yojana' to set up a small scale garment manufacturing unit. The bank had sanctioned a total loan of Rs 2.70 lakh, out of which Rs 1,82,500 was given to the sister. But the remaining amount was withheld by the bank.

The complainant alleged that the accused field officer made an unreasonable demand of Rs 35,000 for releasing the remaining loan amount. During investigation, it was found that the field officer had made this illegal demand in connivance with the branch manager (scale-3) of the bank. Both the accused officers negotiated with each other and reduced their demand to Rs 30,000.
The CBI laid a trap in this case and arrested both the accused officers red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000. Investigation is underway and further action is being taken.

This case is considered an important step against corruption and bribery in the Gramin Bank. This action of the CBI has sent a clear message that illegal demands and bribery will not be tolerated. Strict action will be taken against those who obstruct the loan process in connivance with bank officials.
The complainant and local people have welcomed this action and expressed hope that such incidents will be stopped. The CBI has also started investigating the distribution of the remaining amount and other irregularities in the bank. More revelations are expected in this case in the coming time.
