CIK Files UAPA Chargesheet Against Duo for Alleged Anti-National Content Dissemination

CIK has filed a chargesheet against two individuals in Srinagar under UAPA, alleging misuse of social media to sread fabricated narratives, promote separatism and disturb public order in Kashmir.

Srinagar: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Wednesday filed a chargesheet against two individuals before a designated court under the NIA Act in Srinagar, citing alleged involvement in unlawful activities linked to online content dissemination.

The chargesheet has been filed in connection with FIR No. 05/2025 registered at CIK Police Station.

Accused Identified

The accused have been identified as Dr. Umer Farooq Bhat and his wife Shahzada Akther, both residents of Kulgam district. Authorities allege that the two were acting in coordination as part of a larger conspiracy.

Allegations of Online Propaganda

According to investigators, the accused allegedly used social media platforms, including encrypted messaging applications, to circulate fabricated and misleading narratives about the situation in Kashmir.

The content was aimed at promoting separatist sentiments and creating disaffection against the Union of India, officials said.

Links to Proscribed Organisation

The investigation further claims that the accused were in contact with members of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, a banned outfit. Authorities allege that the content shared was part of a coordinated effort to influence public perception and disturb peace in the region.

Charges Under BNS and UAPA

The case invokes provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as well as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Officials said sufficient evidence has been gathered during the investigation to support the charges.

Alleged Impact on Public Order

Investigators have stated that the content allegedly circulated by the accused was intended to incite unrest, create communal disharmony and influence youth towards radicalisation.

Authorities said such activities pose a threat to public order and national security.

Case Moves to Trial Stage

With the filing of the chargesheet, the matter will now be taken up by the competent court for judicial proceedings. CIK officials reiterated their commitment to acting against activities that threaten the country’s unity and stability.
