New Delhi: A Class 12 student was found in a severely burnt condition behind the guard room of a government school in Krishna Nagar, Delhi’s Shahdara district, on Saturday, October 24. Police have recovered material from the scene and the student’s school bag, while reports indicate that a three-page note may also have been found. Investigators are working to establish the sequence of events and the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The incident was reported at Sarvodaya Balika Vidyalaya after Delhi Police received a Police Control Room (PCR) call about a fire on the school premises. Personnel from Krishna Nagar police station reached the location and found the student behind the guard room, near a water tank, according to accounts of the incident.

The student was reportedly taken away by ambulance. Subsequent reports described her as deceased, while the initial police statement said the circumstances were still being examined. A post-mortem examination was expected to help establish the medical details surrounding the death.

Police, Crime Team Examine School Premises

Following the incident, police personnel, a Crime Team and a fire brigade unit reached the school. Investigators inspected the location and began collecting evidence to reconstruct what happened inside the premises.

According to the police, certain materials were recovered from the spot as well as from the student’s school bag during preliminary proceedings. The nature of these materials has not been officially disclosed, and forensic examination is expected to form part of the investigation.

Fire officials said the cause of the blaze had not been established at the time of the initial assessment. One fire tender was reportedly deployed to the school. Authorities are examining how the fire started and the events that preceded the discovery of the student.

Preliminary media reports have suggested that the student may have brought a bottle containing a chemical substance, possibly petrol, to the school. However, this detail has not been confirmed in the initial official police statement. Investigators have also not publicly disclosed the contents of the reported three-page note.

Three-Page Note Reportedly Recovered; Circumstances Remain Unclear

Reports about the incident indicate that a three-page handwritten note was recovered. Its contents, authenticity and relevance to the case have not been officially established. Police have said that the circumstances leading to the incident are under investigation and that further enquiry is underway.

The student’s family reportedly informed police that she was 17 years old, although some media reports described her as 18. The accounts therefore differ on her age. Information shared about her birthday indicates that she would have turned 18 on Sunday, October 25, had she been alive.

The student’s elder sister told reporters that she had accompanied her to school that morning, along with her niece, and that the student had appeared cheerful when she entered the premises. The family reportedly received a call from the school at around 12.40 pm informing them that a serious incident had occurred.

The account of the family’s last interaction with the student has added to the uncertainty surrounding the case. However, investigators have not publicly established what happened after she entered the school or identified a confirmed reason for the incident.

Local Administration, Police Begin Further Enquiry

BJP MLA Anil Goyal described the incident as deeply unfortunate and said police, local administration officials and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office were looking into the circumstances. Reports also indicated that the body had been sent for a post-mortem examination.

At this stage, the recovery of the reported note and materials from the scene does not by itself establish the sequence of events or the cause of the incident. Police are expected to examine the physical evidence, forensic findings and other relevant information before drawing conclusions.

The investigation remains underway, and key details—including the precise cause of the fire, the contents of the note and the circumstances immediately preceding the incident—remain unclear. Further official information is awaited.
