Questioning Posters Found Inside Delhi Metro Train Trigger Police Probe (Img: X)
New Delhi: Two posters questioning the government’s performance and urging commuters to join an online group have triggered a police investigation after they were found inside a train on the Delhi Metro’s Airport Express Line.
Police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons, while the Special Cell has joined the probe to identify those responsible for putting up the posters and determine the purpose behind them.
The posters, printed in black and white on A4-sized sheets, listed nine claims about developments in the country over recent years. They also carried a QR code that directed people to an online group.
Among the messages printed on the posters were “Voting Protest”, “Dissatisfied? You Are Not Alone”, “You Can Change Your Own Life”, “Spectrum of Engagement” and “Community Building Reform”, according to police sources.
The incident came to light on October 20, when Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) train operator Tarun Chaudhary spotted the posters during an inspection.

According to the FIR, Chaudhary had operated a train from New Delhi station to Yashobhoomi station. The train departed at around 6.50 pm and reached its destination at approximately 7.15 pm.
During a subsequent inspection, he noticed two posters pasted on a seat. He removed them and informed his senior officers and the Operations Control Centre.
Chaudhary was then directed to hand over the material to the station controller at Dwarka Sector 21, who alerted the police.
The posters have since been seized. Investigators are examining the material and attempting to establish who placed it inside the train and who runs the online group linked to the QR code.
The FIR invokes provisions of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act, 2007, and the Metro Railway (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002.
The Special Cell’s involvement adds another dimension to the investigation, although police have not publicly identified any suspects or disclosed the purpose of the online group.
The posters were found amid protests against the Election Commission of India (ECI) over its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Opposition parties, student groups and the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) have questioned the revision exercise and called for Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar to resign.
Critics have alleged that the exercise could result in eligible voters being excluded from electoral rolls. The Election Commission has rejected allegations of political bias, maintaining that the revision is intended to improve the accuracy of voter lists.
However, there is no established link between the posters discovered inside the Metro train and the organisations involved in the protests over electoral roll revision.
Police have yet to identify those responsible for the posters or reveal who operated the online group promoted through the QR code.
