EOW raids 20 locations in Chhattisgarh Bharatmala scam; ₹43 crore irregularities uncovered

Raipur: The Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) has launched a major operation regarding the scam in land acquisition under the Bharatmala Project. Raids are being conducted simultaneously at approximately 17 to 20 locations belonging to officials since Friday morning.

It is alleged that officials and middlemen embezzled crores of rupees by manipulating the compensation amount meant for farmers. The amount involved in this scam is estimated to be around Rs 43 crore.

Manipulation of Compensation Amount
After the matter was raised in the Legislative Assembly, the EOW registered an FIR and initiated an investigation. During the investigation, it was revealed that government officials, in collusion with others, heavily manipulated the compensation amount in the name of land acquisition. Several officials have already been suspended.

EOW teams have raided the residences of former Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nirbhay Sahu and Tehsildar Shashikant Kurre in Raipur. Raids are also underway in Abhanpur, Arang, Durg, and Bhilai.

Several officials from the revenue department, including SDMs, Tehsildars, Patwaris, and Revenue Inspectors, are under investigation.
