Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has unveiled a new AI-powered application, YAKSH, aimed at transforming the state police into a more technologically advanced and efficient force. The app is expected to strengthen beat policing and provide a comprehensive digital repository of criminal records.

From Physical Registers to Digital Surveillance

Until now, criminal histories in Uttar Pradesh were maintained in physical registers a system unchanged for decades. With the state government’s push towards technological integration, YAKSH replaces this manual process with a modern digital platform. The app enables real-time monitoring and seamless access to criminal information, marking a significant step toward a high-tech police system.

Enhanced Policing through Technology

A dedicated control room for YAKSH has been established at the headquarters of the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF). Police personnel at local beat stations will now have accurate, up-to-date information about their areas. The app stores critical details such as criminals’ photos, voice samples, and other essential data, ensuring that officers have a complete profile of known offenders at their fingertips.

Officials believe the app will be a vital tool in tackling cybercrime and apprehending criminals efficiently. Once a fraudster or offender is caught, their details including photos and voice samples will be recorded in YAKSH, helping police track their activities and networks in the future. In a first for state policing, the app will integrate AI capabilities, similar to ChatGPT, enabling investigative assistance through CrimeGPT.

Government Initiatives for Crime Control

The Yogi government has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen law and order:

Anti-Mafia Task Force: Confiscating illegal properties of land mafias and organized criminals.

UPCOCA: Uttar Pradesh Control of Organized Crime Act, modelled on Maharashtra’s MCOCA, to curb organized crime.

‘No New Jinnahs Should Rise’: Yogi Adityanath makes ‘Vande Mataram’ mandatory in UP schools

Operation Clean: Focused on apprehending wanted criminals efficiently.

Women Safety Initiatives: Programs like Anti-Romeo Squad, Mission Shakti, Pink Booths, and Women’s Helpline 1090.

Commissionerate System & Forensic Labs: Implementation in major cities and expansion of FSLs from 4 to 12, with more under construction.

Cyber Police Stations: Established in all 75 districts to combat cybercrime.

With the launch of YAKSH, Uttar Pradesh takes a major leap toward a tech-driven, proactive policing system that promises better monitoring, faster crime-solving, and enhanced public safety.
