Canada: A 22-year-old Indian student from Gujarat has been allegedly stabbed to death in Canada’s Niagara region, according to local police authorities. The victim has been identified as Vidhi Megha, a resident of Borsad in Gujarat’s Anand district.
Police said her body was recovered from the Niagara area near the US border after she had gone missing on May 15. Her disappearance had initially triggered concern before investigators later confirmed she had been murdered.
Vidhi Megha was living in Canada for higher education and was also working part-time to manage her expenses. Reports suggest she was preparing to apply for Permanent Residency (PR) in the country, aiming to build a long-term future there.
She had reportedly gone missing on May 15, after which a search operation was initiated. During the investigation, police confirmed that she had been stabbed to death. Authorities have since registered a murder case and intensified efforts to trace the accused.
Canadian police officials have indicated that the suspect in the case is expected to be arrested soon as the investigation progresses. However, no details regarding the motive or circumstances of the attack have been released so far.
Law enforcement agencies continue to examine evidence collected from the scene and surrounding areas. The Niagara region, located close to the US border, remains under active investigation as authorities attempt to reconstruct the events leading to the crime.
Officials have urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward as search operations continue.
The incident has added to growing concern over the safety of Indian students in Canada, following several violent deaths in recent years.
In December 2025, Indian doctoral student Shivank Awasthi was shot near the University of Toronto’s Scarborough campus, with his body later found near Highland Creek Trail. In April 2025, student Harsimrat Randhawa died in Hamilton after being hit by a stray bullet during a shootout. In December 2024, Harshdeep Singh Antal, a 20-year-old student, was shot dead in Edmonton while working part-time as a security guard.
These incidents have raised renewed concerns about student safety and security conditions for international students in parts of Canada.
