New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed police and civil authorities to ensure peace and maintain law and order in Uttam Nagar amid heightened tensions ahead of Eid celebrations.
A bench led by Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya emphasised the need for strict preventive measures to avoid any escalation. The court instructed authorities to take all necessary steps to ensure that the festival is observed peacefully and without disruption.

It also stressed that security arrangements should instil a sense of safety among residents and remain in place through the upcoming festive period, including Ram Navami.
The court asked the police to remain alert and avoid any laxity, noting that incidents in the national capital can have wider repercussions. Authorities were directed to prevent any actions that could lead to unrest and to ensure a conducive environment for the peaceful observance of Eid.
Tensions in Uttam Nagar have escalated following the killing of a 26-year-old man, Tarun Kumar, in JJ Colony earlier this week. According to police, the incident stemmed from a dispute during Holi celebrations, which later turned violent.
The victim was reportedly attacked with sticks and stones and succumbed to his injuries. The incident has since triggered concerns over law and order in the area.
Authorities are also monitoring reports of threatening messages circulating on social media, which have raised fears of further escalation. The court’s intervention comes amid concerns that such content could aggravate tensions between communities.
The matter has been listed for further hearing on April 6. Officials are expected to update the court on steps taken to maintain peace and security in the area.
