Lucknow: At least two people are feared dead after a major fire broke out at a coaching-cum-gaming zone in Lucknow’s Aliganj area on Monday, triggering panic among students and visitors present inside the building.
According to initial reports, the blaze spread rapidly through the institute premises, trapping several people inside. Thick smoke soon filled the building, making rescue efforts difficult and forcing some people to take extreme steps to save their lives.
Harrowing visuals from the spot showed people jumping from the first floor of the building as flames and dense smoke engulfed the gaming zone. Several others are reported to have suffered injuries in the incident.
Fire brigade teams, police personnel and district administration officials rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the fire. A large-scale rescue and evacuation operation was launched to bring people out safely and control the blaze.
Officials said the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The exact number of people trapped inside the building is yet to be officially confirmed.
Aman, an eyewitness present at the scene, stated that when he arrived, thick smoke was billowing from the building. He and others worked together to help several individuals get out. According to Aman, the situation became so dire that one young man jumped from the building to save his life. He sustained serious injuries from the fall and was rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment.
Eyewitnesses noted that in the initial minutes of the fire, people did not immediately grasp what was happening. Within moments, smoke had engulfed the upper floors as well.
Upon receiving the alert, several fire tenders arrived at the scene. Firefighters immediately began efforts to bring the blaze under control. Meanwhile, the police cleared the surrounding area and advised people to maintain a safe distance.
During the relief and rescue operations, the administration's priority was to safely evacuate everyone present in the building. Efforts to extinguish the fire and search for those trapped inside continued for an extended period.
Given the gravity of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the matter. He directed officials to immediately accelerate relief and rescue operations. He also instructed them to ensure quality medical care for the injured and to provide all possible assistance to those affected.
The Chief Minister further directed officials to keep a constant watch on the situation and ensure there is no negligence. The administration is monitoring the entire situation closely.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated. The administration has stated that further action will be taken once the investigation report is received.
