New Delhi: Suspended JD(U) MLA Anant Singh has suffered a major legal setback in the Dularchand Yadav murder case after the Supreme Court stayed the High Court's order concerning his bail. The apex court has directed Singh to surrender by December 1 and instructed the police to complete the investigation within four months.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court observed that a murder case cannot be treated merely as a political dispute. The bench emphasised that the matter remains under investigation and its seriousness must be considered independently of political developments.
The court also noted that witnesses would be examined during the trial and their statements would be tested through the judicial process. By staying the High Court's order, the apex court has paved the way for further legal proceedings in the case.
The Supreme Court has given Anant Singh until December 1, 2026, to surrender before the appropriate authorities. It has also directed the investigating police team to conclude its probe within four months, setting a clear timeline for the investigation.
During the proceedings, Singh's legal team sought additional time before surrendering, referring to his daughter's upcoming wedding. However, the Supreme Court fixed December 1, 2026, as the deadline for compliance with its direction.
The case has also created political repercussions in Bihar. Following the controversy surrounding the Dularchand Yadav murder case, the Janata Dal (United) had already expelled Anant Singh from the party.
The Supreme Court's latest intervention has added another significant development to the politically sensitive case, with the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings now under closer scrutiny.
