Meerut: The investigation into Meerut’s widely discussed “Snake Murder” case has taken a fresh turn, with police claiming that Atul Panwar had survived an earlier attempt on his life nearly 20 days before his death.
According to investigators, school driver Tushar alias Nikki allegedly tried to run Atul over with an Ertiga car while he was travelling on a motorcycle.

Police believe the collision was not an ordinary road accident but part of a planned attempt to kill him. Atul reportedly survived because he was wearing a helmet, which protected him from fatal injuries.
After the crash, Atul reportedly told his wife, Damini, that a complaint should be filed against the unidentified vehicle.
Police claim Damini discouraged him from approaching the authorities, arguing that filing a case would be pointless because the vehicle’s registration number was unknown.
Investigators suspect that the failure to report the incident gave the alleged conspirators time to prepare another plan.
Police say the accused later changed the method of attack to make Atul’s death appear accidental. According to the investigation, he was allegedly given milk mixed with sleeping tablets. After he fell into a deep sleep, a venomous snake was reportedly placed inside his bed and under the sheet.
Atul was taken to a hospital the following morning, where doctors declared him dead.
The case initially appeared to be a snakebite death, but police became suspicious after examining the circumstances at the scene.

Call records, technical surveillance and digital evidence allegedly revealed frequent communication between Damini and Tushar. Police also recovered a photograph of a snake kept inside a container from Tushar’s phone.
Police have arrested Damini, Tushar and two others in connection with the case. Investigators suspect that an alleged relationship and a life insurance policy worth nearly ₹20 lakh may have been among the motives behind the crime.
The recovered snake and electronic evidence have been sent for forensic examination. Police said further legal action will depend on the forensic findings and continuing investigation.
