Mumbai: A tragic incident in Mumbai’s Navy Nagar area has left the Indian Navy community shocked after a sailor and his family were found dead inside their residential quarters.
The deceased sailor has been identified as Puranmal Shambhulal Mehra (30), who was posted with the Indian Navy. Police suspect that he allegedly killed his wife and two children before taking his own life.
His wife Oma Mehra (28), their three-year-old son Yash, and their two-month-old baby were found dead on the bed inside their home.
According to sources close to the investigation, Mehra sent a WhatsApp message to his mother shortly before the incident.
The message reportedly said, “Come and take our dead bodies.”
After seeing the message the next morning, his mother tried contacting him multiple times but received no response. Following this, Mehra’s father informed the Navy control room, after which officials reached the residence and discovered the bodies.
Initial investigation suggests that Mehra may have first poisoned his wife and children before ending his own life.
However, officials are waiting for medical and forensic reports to confirm the exact cause of death and identify the substance allegedly used.
Police have started a detailed investigation to establish the events that took place before the tragedy.
Investigators found that Mehra had allegedly formatted his and his wife’s mobile phones before the incident.
Cyber experts are now working to recover deleted information from the devices, including messages, call details and other digital evidence.
Police believe the recovered data could provide important clues about the motive behind the incident.
Sources said Mehra was reportedly dealing with family-related issues and financial stress. He was also undergoing medical treatment at a hospital in Mumbai.
Investigators have learned that Mehra and his wife had frequent disagreements.
It has also emerged that Mehra’s father had recently visited Mumbai and wanted his son and family to return home. However, Mehra reportedly declined the suggestion, following which an argument took place between them over the phone.
To understand the circumstances behind the deaths, police are questioning Mehra’s colleagues, neighbours and people close to the family.
Authorities are examining whether there were any warning signs or incidents before the tragedy.
The final forensic report will play a crucial role in determining the exact sequence of events.
The Indian Navy has expressed grief over the incident and said it is extending all possible support during the investigation.
The deaths of the sailor and his family have raised several questions, and investigators are continuing efforts to uncover the reason behind the devastating incident.
