Nepal Flood Locker Mystery: River Swept Away Safe Found With ₹92 Lakh Cash, 29 Arrested

According to Dhading police, the safe originally belonged to the Bhotekoshi area of Rasuwa and was swept away during the floods on September 10. After travelling downstream, it was found near Belkhukhola in Galchhi Rural Municipality-4 along the Trishuli River.

Police officials said they received information on September 12 that some locals had opened the safe after discovering it and removed the cash. Following the information, a police team reached the area and started an investigation.

During the preliminary investigation, police detained 29 suspects and recovered Rs 92,68,505 from their possession.

Police Probe Source of Cash

Most of the detained individuals are residents of Mastar in Galchhi-4. Some suspects are from Adamghat in Galchhi-6 and Adamtar in Siddhalek-7, while others reportedly belong to Chitwan and Parsa but were living in Dhading.

Police are now examining the origin of the cash and investigating whether more people were involved in the alleged theft.

Another Shocking Case: Jewellery Taken From Flood Victim

The Nepal floods have also led to another disturbing incident involving a flood victim’s body.

Two people were arrested after a video allegedly showed them removing gold earrings from the body of a woman who was swept away by floodwaters in the Narayani River. The video triggered outrage on social media and prompted police action.

Nepal Flood Death Toll Crosses 600

The shocking crime cases emerged as Nepal continues to face one of its worst flood disasters.

According to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, 626 people have died, while 2,426 people remain missing after floods and landslides devastated several parts of the country.

The number of missing foreign nationals has also remained at 517, according to officials.

Rescue teams are continuing search operations in affected areas, while thousands of displaced families are struggling with damaged homes, destroyed infrastructure and limited access to essential supplies.

The disaster has caused widespread destruction across multiple districts, with authorities focusing on rescue operations, recovery efforts and tracking missing people.
