Puducherry: CBI nabs Assistant Labour Commissioner in bribery case; Rs 1 lakh recovered

CBI started investigation in this case on 21 August. It is alleged that the Assistant Labour Commissioner had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a private company.

Puducherry: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended the Assistant Labour Commissioner of the Labour Department of the Central Government in Puducherry and a private person on charges of bribery. Rs 1 lakh of bribe has been recovered from the accused.

CBI Investigation

CBI started investigation in this case on 21 August. It is alleged that the Assistant Labour Commissioner had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a private company. He had demanded this bribe through a private person. The company had applied for two labour licenses, which were necessary for the Trichy road contract of NHAI. Due to non-availability of labour license, the company's payment from NHAI was stopped.

Both Accused Arrested

After registering the case, CBI intercepted the accused Assistant Labour Commissioner and that private person. During the investigation, Rs 1 lakh cash was recovered from the office of the accused. Both the accused have been arrested.

Both the arrested accused were produced in the court of Puducherry where they have been sent to judicial custody till 04 September.

Suspicious Documents Found

CBI raided the official and residential places of the accused. Apart from this, the office of that private company in Theni, Tamil Nadu was also searched. Many suspicious documents have been found during the raid. Search is also going on at the native place of the accused in Rajasthan.

Earlier Arrests

Last week of this month CBI has apprehended Mohammad Dilshad for allegedly committing a murder in October 1999 in Saudi Arabia. Dilshan has been absconding for the last 26 years, said police on Saturday. The accused, Mohammad Dilshad, had committed the murder of a person at the premises where he was working as a heavy motor mechanic cum security guard in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

These cases are an example of strict action against corruption in which government officials and private persons were trying to take illegal advantage together. This game of bribery has been exposed due to the vigilance and action of CBI.

Government officials are expected to perform their duties and stay away from corruption so that the confidence of the public remains intact. CBI is constantly trying to stop corruption by investigating such cases.
