Adivi Sesh & Mrunal Thakur impress, strong climax delivers, but… is ‘Dacoit’ worth your time?

Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha offers a gripping premise with elements of love, revenge, and crime, but struggles due to weak screenplay and inconsistent storytelling. While Mrunal Thakur delivers a standout performance and Adivi Sesh impresses in parts, the film becomes predictable early on.

New Delhi: The concept of the film Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha sounds intriguing - a tale of love, betrayal, prison, money, and revenge. However, as the film progresses, its grip begins to loosen. The story revolves around Haridas (Adivi Sesh), who, after spending 13 years in prison, plans to get out. Juliet (Mrunal Thakur), whom he considers the biggest reason for his past, returns to his life.

The story is set during the lockdown period, depicting chaos in hospitals and the game of black money. Juliet is trying to raise 1 crore rupees for the treatment of a loved one, and this is where the story turns towards a grander plan. However, despite several promising opportunities, the story repeatedly changes direction, weakening the impact.

Acting: Mrunal takes charge

Mrunal Thakur is the film's greatest strength. Her character displays a balance of both emotion and strength, especially in the climax. Adivi Sesh plays the angry young man well, but his character seems unstable, which breaks the connection with the audience.

Anurag Kashyap makes an impact even in a small role, while Atul Kulkarni strengthens the character with his experience. Prakash Raj's role is good, but it could have been developed better.

Direction and Screenplay Shortcomings

Director Shaneel Dev fails to give the film a clear direction. The film sometimes becomes an action thriller, sometimes a love story, and sometimes an emotional drama, but none of the tracks fully emerge.

The screenplay is the film's biggest weakness. The first half feels slow and scattered, while the second half, especially the last 30 minutes, picks up a bit. Despite this, the film lacks strength. The story is largely predictable, and a lack of logic is evident at many places.

Technical Aspects

The film's background music is impressive, and the cinematography is also good, which gives it a better look. However, the songs fail to be memorable.

Overall, "Dacoit" is a film that boasts a good cast and a strong idea, but weak writing and a fragmented screenplay result in a mediocre experience. If you're a fan of Adivi Sesh or Mrunal Thakur, you might give it a shot, but going in with high expectations may be disappointing.
