Diwali 2023 Box Office Rival
New Delhi: This Diwali, two major films from different genres are set to release simultaneously, competing head-to-head at the box office. These films are the horror-comedy 'Thama' and the romantic drama 'Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat.'
Both films will hit theaters on October 21st. Advance ticket booking for these films has already begun, and both have generated significant revenue.
Advance booking for 'Thama' has been a sensation. In just a few hours, the film has sold tickets worth nearly ₹2 crore. According to a report by SACNILC, over 12,000 tickets have been sold so far.
By 10 pm, its collection had reached ₹34.16 lakh, which increased to ₹1.89 crore after including block seats. According to these advance booking figures, "Thama" is currently far ahead of "Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat."
Meanwhile, the romantic film "Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat" is clearly feeling the impact of the clash with "Thama." The film has sold approximately 2,000 tickets so far and collected ₹3.92 lakh (approximately $13.08 lakh), including block seats, which is significantly lower than "Thama."
However, this film is also expected to perform well due to its distinct fan base.
"Thama" is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. This film is a significant addition to the Maddock horror-comedy universe. It stars Ayushmann Khurrana, along with prominent actors like Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Paresh Rawal.

'Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat' is directed by Milap Zaveri. The film stars Harshvardhan Rane in the lead role, with Sonam Bajwa playing the romantic lead. The film is expected to be especially popular with young audiences as it is based on a love story.
This Diwali, there will be a fierce competition between the two films. While advance bookings for 'Thama' are going well, 'Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat' is also trying to establish its own identity.
