Aishwarya Rai’s iconic 2002 ‘Devdas’ saree look goes viral again
New Delhi: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a seasoned Cannes regular, never fails to mesmerize on the red carpet. As fans eagerly await her appearance at Cannes 2026, her iconic golden mustard-yellow saree from the 2002 Devdas premiere is trending once again.
Back in 2002, Aishwarya stunned in a Kanjeevaram saree by Neeta Lulla, paired with heavy traditional jewellery and a classic bindi, as she attended the world premiere of Devdas alongside Shah Rukh Khan and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
While the film received widespread acclaim, it was Aishwarya’s ethereal look that left a lasting impression, becoming one of the most memorable moments in Cannes history.
Alia Bhatt, who also attended Cannes this year, recently shared her admiration for the look during an interview with
British Vogue. She said, “A Cannes look that actually goes down in my memory as absolutely iconic would have to be Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at the Devdas premiere. The beautiful saree and her face—it was truly iconic.”
Aishwarya, who has been attending Cannes for over two decades, is expected to walk the red carpet again on May 22. This year’s festival will also see the debut of Tara Sutaria, while Urvashi Rautela, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Punjabi actor-singer Ammy Virk are among others making appearances.
On the professional front, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin SelvanPonniyin Selvan films, continuing to captivate audiences both on and off screen.
