Rajinikanth’s Coolie crosses Rs 100 crore globally on first day
New Delhi: Thalaivaa receives the largest opening in half a century smashes the first-day record and makes over 100 cr globally. Coolie a gangster action drama starring superstar Rajinikanth has gotten off to a great start at the box office. It competed at the box office with War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR.
Coolie has defeated 'War 2' on the first day. The pan-India movie which was first produced in Tamil has given Rajinikanth the largest opening of his fifty-year career. In addition it has surpassed Thalapathy Vijay's Leo to set a record for the highest first-day collection in Tamil.

Following its release it has also become evident that it is a part of the directors Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) which includes popular movies like Kaithi Vikram and Leo.
According to the box office receipts report Coolie brought in Rs. 65. 00 crore nett on its first day on Thursday. The Tamil adaptation brought in Rs 45 crore. It has generated Rs 15 crore in revenue in Telugu. The Kannada version made Rs 50 lakh while the Hindi version made Rs 42.5 crore.
One of the rare Tamil films that has gained popularity in the Hindi belt is Coolie (Worldwide Collection). At the international box office the movie is off to a fantastic start. It broke the previous record for Tamil cinema on its first day earning over Rs 140 crore worldwide both domestically and internationally according to preliminary estimates.
Rajinikanth's dominance at the box office is equivalent to Coolie's dominance in theaters. This is also demonstrated by the fact that on the first day 86–99 percent of its Tamil shows were occupied. On the other hand about 29% of seats were occupied by the Hindi version of War 2.
In Hindi Telugu and Tamil War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR made Rs 5250 crore on its first day of release. In Hindi it brought in Rs 29 crore in Telugu Rs 23.25 crore and in Tamil Rs 25 lakh. Due to its popularity Coolie has set a record for the largest opening in Tamil film history grossing Rs 28–30 crore in Tamil Nadu alone.
