US relations with India-Pakistan are “good”: US State Department

New Delhi: The US State Department has said that it has "good" relations with both India and Pakistan, and American diplomats are committed to working with both countries. State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said this in a briefing on August 12, 2025.

US role and peace efforts

Bruce said that America's cooperation with both the countries is good for the region and the world. Referring to the tension between India and Pakistan in May 2025, she said that the US intervened immediately and helped prevent "potential catastrophe." However, India says that the two countries had a ceasefire through direct talks without any external mediation.

Question on arms sales to Pakistan

Responding to a question on whether US arms supplies to Pakistan would increase after Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir met Donald Trump, Bruce said the US wanted to maintain a balanced relationship with both countries.

Trump claims to be a "peace president."

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Trump was credited with ending many conflicts around the world. Trump himself said he wanted to be the "president of peace" and that the US would help resolve conflicts wherever possible. He cited agreements between India and Pakistan, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Thailand and Cambodia.

India's Claim

India had claimed to kill more than 100 terrorists and attacked 9 terror camps in Pakistan. It was also discussed in the international forum that India might have also attacked the Pakistani nuclear facility in Kirana Hills, which had compelled the US to intervene.

However, the Indian government had denied any international intervention for breaking a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Even the Air Marshal, AK Bharti, of the intrepid Indian Army on May 12 categorically denied reports that the Indian Air Force struck the Kirana Hills in Pakistan's Punjab province.

Asim Munir's Bravado

In the last few months, Pakistani leaders have made objectionable statements against India. Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir had threatened India with a nuclear attack. He had said that if Pakistan faces an existential threat in a war with India, they will "destroy half the world."

India denied these threats and said that Pakistan has always been resorting to nuclear blackmail. India has made it clear that it will not be afraid of such threats and will take every necessary step for its security.

The US wants to maintain strategic relations with both India and Pakistan, but India insists that it can resolve issues with Pakistan without any mediation. This situation shows that the role of the US remains controversial while India maintains its independent foreign policy.
