Mumbai : Actor Imran Khan, nephew of Bollywood star Aamir Khan, has reportedly received a notice from Mumbai Police directing him to leave India by October 28. The action follows his participation in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan.
According to reports, the police initiated proceedings under the applicable provisions of immigration law, citing Khan’s status as a foreign national. The actor is reportedly a US citizen and holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.

The protest, held in Mumbai on Saturday, called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Khan was detained by police during the demonstration, drawing attention to questions about whether foreign nationals holding OCI status can participate in political protests in India.
Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya had earlier written to Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Sharma, seeking an inquiry into Khan’s participation. Somaiya questioned whether the actor had obtained the necessary permission to join the agitation despite being a foreign citizen.
In a post on X, the BJP leader called for Khan’s deportation and urged the police to take appropriate action after examining the matter.
During the incident, Khan posted on social media that he was apparently going for a drive, referring to his presence inside a police van.
A video that subsequently surfaced showed the actor responding to a reporter while police personnel were escorting him into the vehicle. Khan said he had no demands and was not associated with any organisation.
He was also heard questioning the police action, asking what he had done and why he was being manhandled.
The reported notice has brought renewed attention to the legal restrictions applicable to OCI cardholders and their participation in political activities. The precise legal basis for the notice and any further action will depend on the applicable rules and the authorities’ findings.
