Mumbai: Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor has reportedly received a threatening extortion call demanding Rs 5 crore from him. The caller allegedly claimed to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and identified himself as Harry Boxer, a purported gang member.

Following the threat, the actor approached the Mumbai Police, prompting an investigation by the Anti-Extortion Cell and the Crime Branch. Preliminary findings have raised doubts about the caller's identity, with investigators suspecting that the threat could be a hoax.

Police Find Mismatch in Voice Analysis

According to senior police officials, the Crime Branch's technical team examined the audio recording of the threatening call. Investigators compared the caller's voice with an official voice sample of Harry Boxer available in the police database.

The preliminary analysis reportedly revealed a mismatch between the two recordings. This finding has led investigators to question whether the caller was genuinely connected to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang or was merely using the gang's name to intimidate the actor.

Investigators Trace the Sender of Threatening Audio

Police suspect that an unidentified individual may have deliberately invoked the Bishnoi gang's name to create fear and pressure Kapoor into paying the demanded amount.

The investigation is now focused on identifying the person who sent the threatening audio recording. The Crime Branch is examining technical leads to establish the sender's identity and determine the circumstances behind the extortion attempt.

Bishnoi Gang's Name Used in Alleged Extortion Attempt

The alleged threat has once again brought attention to the use of organised crime syndicates' names to intimidate public figures and celebrities.

However, the voice mismatch identified during the preliminary investigation suggests that the caller's claimed association with the gang remains unverified.

Police are continuing their probe to establish who was behind the Rs 5-crore demand and whether the threat was part of a deliberate attempt to extort money from the actor.
