Sonu Sood Reacts to Punjab Stray Dog Drive
New Delhi: Sonu Sood has spoken out against the growing concerns surrounding Punjab government’s recent action on stray dogs, urging authorities and citizens to adopt a more humane and balanced approach.
The debate began after the Punjab government initiated a drive to remove stray dogs from public areas following a Supreme Court order. The move quickly sparked intense discussions online about public safety, animal welfare and the treatment of street animals.

In a video shared on social media X, Sonu Sood expressed concern over visuals and reports allegedly showing harsh treatment of stray dogs. He said the images circulating online were deeply disturbing and appealed for kindness toward animals that are often cared for by local communities.
The actor acknowledged that incidents involving dog attacks do occur, especially involving children, but stressed that people living in neighbourhoods usually know which animals are aggressive and report them when necessary.
He warned against broad actions targeting all stray dogs and called on animal lovers to raise awareness about humane alternatives.
Sonu suggested that the government should focus on building shelters and encouraging adoption rather than relying on strict measures. According to him, many stray dogs survive because local residents regularly feed and care for them.
He also encouraged citizens to visibly identify dogs they look after, saying this could help communities recognise animals that are already being cared for.
His remarks received widespread attention online, with many social media users supporting his call for long-term and compassionate solutions.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that the government would act only through legally permitted methods while addressing stray dog concerns in crowded public areas.
Officials said euthanasia would be considered only in cases involving dangerous or highly aggressive animals that pose a threat to human life. The state government also announced plans to create adequate shelter facilities for relocated dogs.
Amid the ongoing discussion, Sonu also indirectly addressed recent online trolling faced by Alia Bhatt after her Cannes Film Festival appearance. Without naming her directly, he posted a message encouraging positivity and support instead of criticism, urging people to celebrate achievements rather than search for flaws.
