Mumbai: Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana has opened to a strong response at the box office. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, the film is witnessing impressive footfall across several theatres on its opening day.
Nitesh Tiwari’s much awaited film Ramayana Part One has finally arrived in cinemas worldwide on Thursday, November 5, ahead of the Diwali weekend. Featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita, the film has generated considerable excitement among audiences.
Made on an estimated budget of Rs 1,600 crore, Ramayana is being touted as the most expensive Indian film ever produced. Strong advance bookings and encouraging early audience reactions have given the film an impressive start at the domestic box office.
The film’s advance bookings opened on Dussehra, 15 days before its theatrical release. However, ticket sales gathered momentum after exhibitors and distributors resolved their differences last week.
Rs 4,000 Crore Ramayana Gets Court Protection Ahead of Its November Release
According to early trade estimates, Ramayana had already generated around Rs 200 crore through worldwide advance bookings before hitting theatres. The Indian market contributed more than Rs 120 crore to the overall pre-release ticket sales, with approximately Rs 45 crore in gross bookings for the opening day.
These numbers indicated that the film was heading towards a substantial opening.
The film has witnessed strong occupancy during morning shows across several parts of the country. By 1 PM on Thursday, Ramayana had reportedly collected Rs 22.60 crore net in India.
The Hindi version has been the biggest contributor so far. Interestingly, the Kannada version, despite featuring Yash as Ravana, has registered a comparatively slower start, collecting around Rs 3 crore by the afternoon. The Telugu version has also shown a promising response, while Tamil and Malayalam collections have remained relatively modest.
With strong pre-release bookings and encouraging theatre occupancy, Ramayana is expected to cross the Rs 70 crore net mark on its first day, according to early projections.

The film is also looking to surpass the opening-day collections of several major releases, including Pathaan, Animal and Jawan. However, its biggest benchmark remains the reported Rs 102 crore opening day collection of Dhurandhar 2.
Whether Ranbir Kapoor and Yash’s ambitious mythological spectacle manages to set a new box office record will become clearer as the day’s collections come in.
