Mumbai: The Indian stock market witnessed a strong rally on November 5, as benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty recorded significant gains, extending their winning streak to a fifth consecutive trading session. Strong buying across sectors lifted investor sentiment, with both indices ending the session firmly in positive territory.

The BSE Sensex climbed 1,388.43 points, or 1.80%, to close at 78,689.83. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 382.15 points, or 1.59%, to settle at 24,342.75.

The sharp gains brought renewed optimism as investors responded positively to improving domestic and global market conditions.

What Drove the Market Rally?

Several factors contributed to Thursday’s strong performance. Market sentiment received support from easing crude oil prices, which offered some relief to India’s import-dependent economy.

The return of buying interest among foreign institutional investors (FIIs) also helped strengthen the market. Their renewed participation provided additional support to benchmark indices.

Meanwhile, better than expected quarterly earnings from several companies added to the positive momentum. Favourable global cues further encouraged investors to increase their exposure to equities.

Top Gainers and Loses: Which Stocks Moved?

Market breadth remained firmly positive throughout the session, reflecting widespread buying activity.

On the BSE, 2,099 stocks advanced, while 397 declined. Another 107 shares remained unchanged, highlighting the broad-based nature of the rally.

Among Nifty stocks, InterGlobe Aviation, Shriram Finance, Asian Paints, Maruti Suzuki and Bajaj Finance emerged as the leading gainers.

On the other hand, shares of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Cipla, Coal India and Bharti Airtel faced selling pressure and ended lower.

What Should Investors Watch Next?

The market’s fifth consecutive session of gains indicates improving investor confidence and stronger buying interest.

However, market experts continue to advise caution despite the upbeat sentiment. Investors should assess their risk appetite, evaluate company fundamentals and avoid making investment decisions solely on the basis of short-term market movements.

With global developments, crude oil prices and upcoming corporate earnings likely to influence sentiment, investors will be watching the market’s next moves closely.
